CANCELLED: Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi | Art Sounds Antony Gormley / Pavla Melková

CANCELLED: Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi | Art Sounds ⬩ Antony Gormley / Pavla Melková

Dear visitors, we are saddened by the sudden passing of musician Vojtěch Havel. Our thoughts are now with his wife Irena.

The concert is cancelled, but we would like to commemorate Vojtěch Havel with a rememberance programme, which we are currently working on.

Thank you for your understanding.

Enjoy the music directly in the exhibition Antony Gormley / Pavla Melková. A bonus event from the Art Sounds series will bring special guests – Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi – to Galerie Rudolfinum on Tuesday, November 26. The concert starts at 5 pm. Admission is free.

The Havels and Antony Gormley

"When we first played in London in the 1990s, our friend Jiří Plieštik, a sculptor and photographer, put us in touch with Antony. We had no idea who he was, we just knew that he was also a sculptor. We invited him and he came, he really liked the concert and invited us to his studio the next day. We took our instruments with us – viola da gamba and cello – and played just for him. He sat on the floor in front of us and drew pictures in response to our music.

After a few years we played again in London and Antony organised a concert in his new, much larger studio, where he invited his friends and we played among his sculptures. We became friends and every time we meet him again it is a great joy. Now we know what a great personality Antony Gormley is. His humility and the depth with which he works on his pieces, is amazing. We are very happy to play during his exhibition at Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague."
