No other musical style tuned in to the local post-November changes as well as shoegaze, and the newly acquired freedom was accompanied by deafening guitar distortion. Music journalist and author of the book Whisper Aloud (Šeptej nahlas) Miloš Hroch, together with ambient musician Jan Kašpar (Obelisk of Light) and a follow-up performance by musician Tomáš Kopáček, will guide us through the dreamy paths of the 1990s between Prague and London, which gave rise to one of the most significant periods of Czech independent rock.
Just as Czech shoegaze bands came up with new approaches that broke with established traditions, Kateřina Vincourová also experimented with form in the visual arts. They shared the same starting points in a world unrestricted by the barriers of the Iron Curtain, and their paths intertwined on those dreamlike trails and maps of Prague clubs – where shoegaze met dance electronica.

Miloš Hroch is a music journalist. He contributes to the British magazine The Wire, The Quietus website, and the weekly magazine Respekt, and also writes for The Guardian, A2 magazine, and Deník N. He worked as a music editor for Radio Wave and participated in the podcast Špína. Together with Karel Veselý, he wrote the book Všechny kočky jsou šedé (All Cats Are Grey, Paseka 2020). He works at the Department of Media Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University.
Jan Kašpar is a musician and sound artist. He performs in several musical ensembles of various genres. In the Obelisk of Light project, he experiments with abstract soundscapes and explosive sound design. He has composed music for a number of contemporary artists, podcasts, and the Artyčok.tv internet platform. He specializes in the synthesis of traditional instruments and their digital de-construction.
Tomáš Kopáček is a musician who has been primarily involved in the Black Tar Jesus project in recent years. In the past, he has also devoted himself to artistic projects combining music and performance, such as collaborations with Martin Kohout (The Future Gallery in Berlin and Futura Gallery in Prague) and Wojciech Kosma (Karlin Studios).
